Abstract
An attempt to raise entirely ideal generations was initiated immediately after the foundation of the Turkish Republic to create a contemporary and conscious society. Put at the focus of this attempt, children were evaluated in terms of their mental and physical development and education. It was also regarded as necessary to form awareness and culture of sports in this new generation as it was planned to be raised as a versatile generation. Selim Sırrı (Tarcan) is one of those pioneers to inform, with his works, the Republican generation about the modern physical education, sports, and gymnastic. Especially with more than thirty articles in the journal Robust Turkish Child, Selim Sırrı provided valuable resources about sports, physical training, gymnastic and games to care takers and children during the first years of the republic, meeting an important need in the field.
